According to the National Child Measurement Programme, childhood obesity rates increased at the rate of 4.5% between the years 2019-20 and 2020-21 - a rise seen in both Reception-aged children and those in Year 6.

Among children aged four to five years in 2021, obesity rates leaped from 9.9% in 2007 to 14.4%. In children aged 10-11, rates of obesity experienced a similar climb, going from 18.7% in 2009-10 to
25.5% in 2021.
